| Low productivity of the new employee | The Job Coach will identify any barriers that impede the progress of the employee and take steps to alleviate the barriers, including a thorough training of job tasks. The Job Coach will also perform the work necessary to guarantee 100% productivity from the first day forward. |
| Need for an accommodation | Sometimes, a person with a disability requires an "accommodation" in order to perform the same work as other people. These accommodations may revolve around physical limitations (such as raising a desk to the proper height for a person who uses a wheelchair), medical requirements (such as providing a breaktime for a person with diabetes who needs insulin injections), or mental health issues (such as providing a quiet location in which a person with schizophrenia could rest if needed). The Job Coach is trained to identify needs for accommodations and to use creativity in order to minimize the cost impact as well as minimize the impact on the employee's productivity (in most cases, the accommodations will enhance productivity). The Job Coach works with the Jobs R Us staff to ensure all resources are used in order to assist employers in providing accommodations for employees. |
| Uncomfortable interaction with the new employee | The Job Coach is accustomed to facilitating relationships between people with disabilities and their co-workers or supervisors. When appropriate, the Job Coach will offer guidance to people so that the new employee becomes a comfortable and welcomed member of the company's team. Many people use the Job Coach as a liaison to the new employee as they learn the most effective manner in which to interact with the person hired from Jobs R Us. |
| Poor quality of work |
Though most employees hired through Jobs R Us demonstrate above average work, the presence of the Job Coach will be insurance to the employer that the new employee's work will be checked and evaluated every day that the employee works. The Job Coach will continually train and observe the employee in order to create a high quality worker. |
As the employee hired through Jobs R Us becomes
proficient at his/her
work, the Job Coach will begin to phase out over the course of a number
of months. It is the goal of Jobs R Us to assist businesses in the
training of people hired through the program and eventually see
a person who has a supportive work environment in which he/she
can excel independently, without need for a Job Coach.
Even after a Job Coach phases out of a work site, Jobs R Us
maintains contact with the employer and will be available
to offer guidance throughout the employment of the person
who was hired through the Jobs R Us program.
